The kinetics and mechanism of filiform corrosion affecting organic coated Mg alloy surfaces

چکیده
The filiform corrosion (FFC) of organic coated magnesium alloys is investigated using in-situ scanning Kelvin probe and time-lapse photography. FFC initiated by injecting MgCl2, HCl FeCl2 into a coating defect ensuing propagation rates are shown to increase as logarithmic function the chloride ion concentration strongly dependent on relative humidity. FRACTIONAL RECRYSTALLIZATION KINETICS IN DIRECTLY COLD ROLLED Al-Mg, Al-Mg-Sc AND Al-Mg-Sc-Zr ALLOY
The evaluation of texture as a function of recrystallization has been characterized for directly cold rolled Al-6Mg, Al-6Mg-0.4Sc and Al-6Mg-0.4Sc-0.2Zr alloys. Samples were annealed isothermally at 400 °C for 1 to 240 minutes to allow recrystallization. Recrystallization kinetics of the alloys is analyzed from the micro-hardness variation. Isothermally annealed samples of aluminum alloys were ...
متن کاملSurface treatments for controlling corrosion rate of biodegradable Mg and Mg-based alloy implants
Due to their excellent biodegradability characteristics, Mg and Mg-based alloys have become an emerging material in biomedical implants, notably for repair of bone as well as coronary arterial stents. However, the main problem with Mg-based alloys is their rapid corrosion in aggressive environments such as human bodily fluids. Previously, many approaches such as control of alloying materials, c...
متن کاملIn-situ Mg release monitored during magnesium alloy corrosion
Quantitative in-situ and localized analytical methods that can monitor Mg release are central to probe the impact of the microstructure on magnesium alloy corrosion. As such, a potentiometric micro-Mg ion-selective membrane electrode is fabricated, calibrated, characterized and used to selectively monitor the Mg release from different cast Mg AM50 alloys during corrosion. We demonstrate that th...
متن کاملThe Effect of Heat Treatment on the Sensitized Corrosion of the 5383-H116 Al-Mg Alloy
In this study, the effects of heat treatment and sensitized corrosion on the 5383-H116 Al-Mg alloy were investigated for temperatures ranging from 100 to 450 °C. The results show that the heat treatment temperature is the main factor that causes changes to the microstructure and mechanical strength of the 5383-H116 Al-Mg alloy, inducing β-phase (Al₃Mg₂) precipitation in the form of a continuous...
